Finding Your Academic Advisor 

If you receive federal or state financial aid, work with your academic advisor to make sure your classes are meeting Course Program of Study (CPOS) requirements to receive your full financial aid amount. 

All Vols are assigned an academic advisor to help them stay on track with coursework, degree requirements, and academic goals. You can find your assigned advisor through MyUTK or Vol Connect. 

Option 1: Check MyUTK 

  1. Log in to MyUTK using your NetID and password. 
  1. Locate the section displaying your name and student-related information. 
  1. Look for Advisor to see the name of your current academic advisor. 
  1. Select the email icon next to your advisor’s name to contact them directly. 

Option 2: Check Vol Connect

  1. Log in to MyUTK using your NetID and password. 
  1. Select Academic Support, then select Vol Connect. 
  1. At the top of your Vol Connect homepage, select Connect, then select Vol Success Team. 
  1. Your primary advisor and other members of your Vol Success Team will be listed there. 

Still Need Help?

If you are unable to identify your assigned advisor, contact your college or academic program for assistance. If your advisor is not available, or you require immediate assistance, undergraduate students can utilize the College Advising Center as a resource. 

Undergraduate Degree Tracking 

Academic advisors are faculty or staff from the student’s college or major. Advisors use tools like DARS and uTrack to support students in staying on track with their program of study and encourage on-time graduation.

DARS provides an automated record of progress toward completing a degree in your major.

uTrack (Universal Tracking)

uTrack is an academic monitoring system that helps you stay on track for graduation.

Changing Majors

If you are considering a change in your program of study, please discuss this with your advisor and contact the college of the new program of study to discuss before making any changes. 

Graduate Student Degree Tracking

UT offers various graduate certificates, master’s degrees, specialists in education, and doctoral degrees, with each program having specific requirements. You can find a complete list of graduate programs in the Graduate Catalog under Majors/Minors, A-Z, or Certificates, A-Z. 

For specific degree requirements, consult individual program descriptions. 

Department/program policies and procedures, which are specific to degree programs and may be more rigorous than those set by the Graduate School, are provided in the Graduate Catalog and in the Graduate Student Handbook available within each academic department and/or program.
