FAQs

Can I still file the FAFSA?

Yes, we encourage you to file the FAFSA as soon as possible to be eligible for many types of aid, such as grants and scholarships (including HOPE for in-state students), the Federal Work-Study program, student loans, and more!

As an incoming first-year student, what are my next steps?

We are so excited to welcome you to Rocky Top! Make sure you are checking your UT email daily for important next steps and information from campus. Check out our next steps page here to stay on track!

What is TOTAL Access for course materials?

TOTAL Access is a new VolShop program that offers one flat fee, per term for all required undergraduate course materials, similar to a subscription plan. TOTAL Access was created to reduce the overall costs for each semester’s course materials. Learn more and find FAQs here.

What are estimated additional expenses, or non-billable items?

Estimated additional expenses are things that UT does not bill you for, but that you need to take into consideration when planning your budget and the out-of-pocket costs you may incur. These non-billable items are based on your personal needs and spending habits, and include transportation (gas, car maintenance), personal expenses, loan fees if you choose to utilize student loans, and more. Learn more about billable and non-billable costs (called key costs and estimated additional expenses) here.

How do I make payments for each semester?

There are several ways you can pay your balance each semester. One of the easiest and fastest ways to pay is by logging into your MyUTK account and making a payment there. We encourage you to read about important dates and deadlines and find great resources on our billing page.

What is an Authorized User?

Students can designate Authorized Users (AU) in MyUTK. An AU can talk to One Stop about financial aid, billing statements, payments, verification, and more. AUs also may receive timely communications regarding important dates and deadlines that impact the student.

  • Learn more about how to designate someone as an AU here.
  • AUs can login to make a payment here.
